Practical Wyrdness

It's easy enough to understand that the wyrd exists, is real, and has real impact on our lives; not quite so easy, though, to maintain some kind of grasp of how it weaves through our lives, and which way it's moving at any given moment. When we're in weird, unknown territory, it's helpful to have some kind of road-map... hence it's useful to find practical maps to help manage the wyrdness.

As Wyrdsmiths, we'll work with whatever comes our way on the weavings of the wyrd. We use all the standard tools of analysis and technology, of course, because they do work - most of the time... The problem there is that what's generally thought of as 'science' is the result of a long history of trying to map the wyrd without acknowledging it for what it is - which is why scientists so often meet up with Murphy's Law!

Analysis works well with patterns that repeat consistently, in space, in time, or both. Yet the wyrd is the interweaving of everything, everywhere, everywhen: faced with a reality in which everything and nothing can be true at the same time, or not at all, the severe limitations of analysis as a tool become all too evident. It's here that we need intuitive tools, to select appropriately from amongst the infinity of possibilities. But we still need some kind of map, to provide a framework or 'anchor' on which to base that intuition: otherwise the answers we get back may well be meaningless. "Do I go left or right?" asks the novice diviner; "Yes!" is the enthusiastic reply from his pendulum...

Of the many tools that do work with the inherent weirdnesses of the wyrd, three that we happen to like, and use routinely even in a business environment, are astrology, feng shui and the tarot. If we were foolish enough to believe that any of these predict the future, we'd find ourselves in trouble real quick... But they are useful in helping to pinpoint those weird ebbs and flows in the passage of time and space - and turn them to our clients' advantage. Check them out for yourself, perhaps?

As Wyrdsmiths, we also develop our own maps and mapping tools - new kinds of wyrd software, using computers to carry out the calculations whilst leaving the intuition free to feel its way within the wyrd. If you want the equivalent of astrological software for your chosen way of working with the wyrd, keep an eye on these pages!
